Thoroughly redesigned last year, the Honda Fit is more attractive and extraordinary than ever before. This new Fit is even more spacious inside yet boasts a smaller exterior than its predecessors. The exterior was given new life with a more aggressive stance, crisp new front and rear fascia, and a host of aerodynamic design lines. Inside, Honda’s “Magic Seat” remains to awe drivers laden with luggage, while all-new seats, surfaces, instruments, and gauges bring the Fit well into the modern age. The Fit is small and affordable, but feels light-years away from those descriptions; offering up high-quality construction, premium materials, and more cabin space than you will probably know what to do with. Front headroom measures at 39.5 inches (38.0 inches with the sunroof), rear headroom is 37.5 (or 37.6) inches. Front legroom is a whopping 41.4 inches and rear legroom comes in a 39.3 inches. There is 95.7 (or 93.8) cubic feet of total passenger space and 16.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat. If you fold that rear seat (it goes flush into the floor for a totally flat load surface) you get a cavernous 52.7 cubic feet of cargo space. If you need space for tall items, fold the rear seat cushions up and you get over four feet of vertical space. For long items, the front passenger seat can fold completely flat and, with the rear 40-split side of the bench folded down, you get up to 7 feet of load space.
The Honda Fit is offered in three trim grades, LX, EX, and EX-L; there’s also a Navigation Package that further upgrades the EX-L with ultra-high-end equipment and all the techno bells and whistles you could want. Across all trims, you’ll find a peppy 1.5-liter four-cylinder, which now features direct injection and a composite intake system. The standard LX and EX transmission is a six-speed manual, EX-L gets standard a CVT transmission with Sport Mode paddle shifters, which is an available option for EX trim. The CVT gearbox allows drivers to cycle through seven gear-stages with the aid of steering wheel-mounted paddles. The 2016 Honda Fit is more powerful than before, offering up 130 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque with its new powertrain configurations. When equipped with the CVT transmission, the Fit can earn an EPA-estimated 33 city/41 highway mpg*.
Active safety features in the 2016 Honda Fit include a multi-angle rearview camera with guidelines, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, vehicle stability assist with traction control, daytime running lights, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
Some exterior features on the new Honda Fit include remote keyless entry, multi-reflector halogen head lamps with auto on/off feature, a body-colored roofline spoiler, LED brake lights, and intermittent wiper blades for the front windshield and rear window as well as body-colored side mirrors with power folding and an expanded view driver’s side mirror. The EX and EX-L also get a one-touch power moonroof, and fog lights. The EX-L gets exclusive heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals.
Interior features offered as standard throughout the Fit lineup include cruise control, map lights, a 12-volt power outlet, Bluetooth, MP3/WMA CD playback, and a USB port. The Fit EX and EX-L also come with HondaLink Next Generation, Pandora integration, an SMS text message function, and a display audio interface as well as an upgraded 180-watt stereo with six speakers.
